team: PASEL-K Architects client: IBA Thüringen with Stiftung Landengel location: Seltenrain region, Thuringia size: five decentralized health kiosks status: in progress 2019-20
The International Building Exhibition (IBA) Thuringia is dedicated to the connection between demographic shrinkage, climate change and the energy transition as well as various other socio-cultural phenomena of transformation in the entire Free State of Thuringia.
The Landengel Foundation plans to establish a regional healthcare network in the Seltenrain region. Components include a central rural clinic in Kirchheilingen with various health services, as well as decentralized health kiosks in five rural municipalities in the region, Sundhausen, Tottleben, Blankenburg, Bruchstedt and Urleben. As a contact point for holistic health care questions, the project focuses not only on patients, but also on the needs of the inhabitants of the villages for advice, exchange and spaces for encounter. The health kiosks therefore include a minimal space with a bus stop and a public outdoor space that is designed to a high standard, invites you to linger, encourages exchange and allows for participation and social interaction. There are benches under the village tree, communal beds for co-gardening, central charging points for e-bikes, a pop-up store for home-made products, a free WiFi network and the digital Landplausch to announce current events in the villages.
A special feature of the project is the close interaction between social and architectural questions, which goes beyond the purely structural development of the health kiosks and also develops cooperative process qualities that can be integrated into the project development through forms of participation and participation.
